The S.O. sponsors pizza days several times throughout the yearin front of each of the lunchrooms. These are fundraisers for S.O. activities. Pizza is sold for $2.00 a slice. Students must bring cash since the cafeteria pin number system does not work for S.O. pizza.

• Thanks to your S.O. members pushing for this, we are having TWO pizza days this month, Thursday April 15 and Thursday April 22, which is human rights day.
• The Wii Guitar Hero contest had to be rescheduled due to the school closings last month. The new date is Tuesday April 13 after school in the great hall. There are plenty of open spots left. To sign up, bring in 2 cans of food. You must sign up ahead of time with your food cans in Mr. Rambone’s room in T-18. There will be multiple levels of play to sign up in. Top prize is $30.00 gift certificate to Best Buy.
Prizes will be awarded to a winner in each level.
• The S.O. Student /Staff switch day is this Friday, April 9. You have only a few days left to plan for this activity. Talk to your teacher for details. This is a fun, yet educational experience. If you and your teacher decide to switch it is a time commitment on your part to prepare for the day.
• The canned food drive is coming to a close this Friday, April 9. To celebrate, the S.O. is sponsoring a Can Art Contest on April 20 in the great hall. Up to 10 teams will have 45 minutes to stack and sculpture up to 100 cans. The best sculpture will win a pizza party for their social studies class. Here is how to sign up.
A team of 5 students from your social studies class can be a team. One member must come down to Mr. Rambone’s room to get a sign up form. April 16 is the sign up deadline. First 10 teams are in.
• Our charity Talent show “Kids helping Kids” is this Friday, April 9 at 7:30pm in the auditorium. Tickets are available at the school store starting this week. Prices are $5.00 for students and $8.00 for adults. Some tickets will also be available at the door. All proceeds will go to the “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation” Come on out that night and support your friends while helping out a great cause.
• Do you have any artistic talent? The S.O. is sponsoring a cover design contest for next years school planner. Here is how you enter- design your cover on a standard piece of printer paper. It can be hand drawn artwork or you could use a computer to design certain graphics for it. You may also use photos.
The cover should also be in color. See your S.O. rep for samples from other schools. All artwork must be handed in to your house office by Friday, April 23. In addition to having your winning design on everyone's planner you will win a $30.00 gift certificate to a location of your choice.

• 8th graders----The end of the year, Spring Fling Dance is coming up on Friday night, May 14. Be sure to put it on your calendar. This is your end of the year dance. You don't want to miss it. Tickets will go on sale May13 &14. It will be pay one price for food, drinks and entertainment, you do not need to spend any additional money. The ticket price is $10.00, the same price as the last few years. The dress code for the evening is “Speech Contest Clothes”. No one will be allowed in the door wearing jeans or t-shirts. We will be having best dressed prizes to the best dressed guys and girls.

• All the 8th grade reps are the dance committee for the “Spring Fling” dance . We are having a meeting Friday, April 16 after school in Mr. Rambone’s room. Put it on your calendar.
• For the 7 and 8th graders who are signed up for student/teacher switch day, be sure to be at your location as soon as homeroom ends on Friday.
• If you signed up to help with the talent show be sure to be on time. Dinner for everyone will be at 5:30pm. If you can not make this event please let Mr. Rambone know as soon as possible.
•S.O. means leadership, being a leader means stepping forward when no one else will. So, Make a difference! If you see bullying going on, lend a hand to stop it. Contact a teacher or staff member and let them know what's going on. Even a anonymous note slipped under a door can be helpful. The SMS staff can not help if we don't know what's going on. Do something, just don't stand by.

*SO VALENTINE’S DAY CANDY SALE
The SO will be holding their annual Valentine’s Day Candy Sale on Wednesday, February 10th and Thursday, February 11th . Your child will be able to purchase their special valentine a gift or some candy. The sale will be held after school (between 2:30 pm and the late bus) in the hallway in front of Mr. Rambone’s room.
* STUDENT FACULTY EVENT FOR ALL STUDENTS
The SO will be sponsoring a mixed Student Faculty 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, February 23rd for the 6th grade, Thursday, February 25th for the 7th grade and Thursday, March 4th for the 8th grade. Have your child start lining up his or her team now. All teams must contain one staff member and two students. Sign-up forms are available in Mr. Rambone’s room, T-18. Each team MUST have an official sign-up form.
*SO BREAKFAST TO HELP HAITI
The S.O. is sponsoring a breakfast to raise funds for Haiti. The breakfast will be Friday, February 12 from 7:30 to 8:10 am. It will be held in the Cooper dining room. The SO will also have portable carts with breakfast item for sale, in the Great Hall and top floor of the Center. Bring a few dollars and buy bagels, muffins, rolls and juices to help those suffering in Haiti.
*SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY
Thanks to all the students who dressed in their elementary school colors. We had an enormous turnout, especially by the 6th and 8th graders.
*SOUPER BOWL THREE POINT CONTEST
Thank you to all of you that participated in the SO’s SOUPer Bowl contest. All the can food collect will be donated to the Westchester Food Pantry. Stay tuned for more details on an additional can food drive and contest.

• SCHOOL SPIRIT EVENT FOR ALL STUDENTS
SO’s first Spirit Day of the year, “Elementary School Spirit Day” will be Thursday, Jan 28th. Please have your child show their spirit for their Elementary School by wearing their school colors, T-shirts or other Elementary School spirit wear. The students who demonstrate the most spirit based on how they are dressed will win mini-prizes. We especially encourage students who are NEW to the school to participate. The SO looks forward to everyone participating.
• COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT FOR ALL STUDENTS:
The S.O. “Souper Bowl three point contest”, will take place on Wednesday, Feb 3rd, after school (2:40pm) and will finish in time for students to catch the late buses. The “Souper Bowl” is a three point basketball shooting contest. The students who make the most amount of baskets from the three point line will win prizes, which might includes a gift certificates to the Sports Authority. The entrance fee is TWO CANS OF SOUP. There is no sign-up needed, just bring your canned soup on the day of the event. There will be prizes for both boys and girl categories. The soup that is collected, will be donated to the Westchester Food Pantry.

• The S.O. Pizza days usually take place the third Thursday of the month in front of each of the lunchrooms. These are fundraisers for S.O. activities. Pizza is sold for $2.00 a slice. You must bring in money, the cafeteria pin number system does not work for pizza days.
• The huge S.O. Halloween costume contest is on Friday, Oct 30. Students should wear their costumes to school. Judging will take place during lunch by the S.O. and the lunch aides. The best costume in each grade per house will win prizes. The awards will be given out in the Main hallway (in front of the main office) during the recess part of your lunch shift.
• The famous S.O. talent show will be on November 20, during the school day. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, Nov 4 and Thursday, Nov 5 in the auditorium at 2:40 pm. The time to start thinking about this show is now. If you have any serious talent such as singing, dancing, magic or can play an instrument sign up with Mr. Rambone in T-18 until November 2. If you do not sign up by Monday November 2nd by 2:30pm you will not get an audition.
• If anyone has some concerns or issues related to school life contact your S.O. rep and it will be brought to the S.O. for discussion. Remember some issues take time to resolve.
